February 15, 2020 - 10th Place Finish in DIRTcar Nationals Finale at Volusia
On Monday night Mason Zeigler returned to action at Volusia Speedway Park (Barberville, Florida) for the 49th annual DIRTcar Nationals. In a field of 44 DIRTcar Late Models, Mason fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a 6th place finish. Coming in 2nd in his B-Main behind G.R. Smith, Zeigler locked into the 23rd-starting position for the opening night feature. With $7,000 on the line, Mason Zeigler jumped up three spots to record a 20th place outing.

After sitting out Tuesday night’s program, Zeigler was one of 51 World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series entries on hand on Wednesday for the $10,000-to-win A-Main. Following a 5th place finish in his heat, Mason scored a runner-up finish in his B-Main behind Cade Dillard which positioned him 22nd on the starting grid for the feature. Passing nine cars in the 40-lap affair, Mason Zeigler scored a 13th place finish.

The following night, Mason logged a 5th place finish in his heat race, transferring him into the B-Main for another shot at the A-Main. Needing to place in the Top 3, Zeigler slipped back to a 10th place finish.

Round #5 of the 44th annual Wrisco Winternationals found 57 drivers entered, and Mason started his night with a second-place finish in his heat race. As a result, he locked into the seventh-starting spot for the 50-lap finale.

Late in the $12,000-to-win feature Zeigler worked his way into the third position as he set his sights on frontrunners, Kyle Bronson and Brandon Sheppard. Zeigler inched past both drivers to lead lap 48 before Bronson retook control as the white flag flew.

The final circuit saw Zeigler and Bronson locked into a spirited battle for the lead. At the finish line Zeigler crossed first, just 0.068 seconds in front of Bronson.

"I knew Kyle (Bronson) was going to be tough because that cushion was still pretty good up there. The cautions really helped me because their tires were getting a little cool and I could just work that middle (groove)," Zeigler said. "I knew if I could just get ahead of him, clear him, and take his nose getting into (turns) one and two, we could drive away. He gave me all I wanted. I didn't expect that slider. I didn't think he'd be able to pull up alongside me again, and he sure as heck did. We just had barely enough room there. I did everything I could not to door him, it's just hard-core racing. This place is elbows up and get after it. We're just happy to come out here and put on a show."

For the final round of the Wrisco Winternationals on Saturday evening, Zeigler followed up the sixth fastest lap in his time trial group with a 2nd place finish in his heat behind Brian Shirley. Starting the $12,000-to-win finale in 12th, Mason dropped back to a 28th place outing after getting spun around on the opening lap.

With $5,000 on the line, Zeigler brought out a caution on lap 13 that dropped him back to a 29th place outing.

The following night, Zeigler fell one spot short of a transfer position in his heat with a 4th place finish. Transferring only the race winner from his B-Main, Mason scored a runner-up finish behind Shane Clanton giving him one final shot at the $5,000-to-win A-Main with the Berry Barn Strawberry Dash. Needing to place in the Top 2, Zeigler notched a 2nd place spot behind David Breazeale which locked him into the main event.
